(John 3:16, Romans 6:23) 2. How are you saved? (Ephesians 2:8-9) 3. What do we put our faith in for salvation? (Romans 10:9-10, 13) Salvation is a free gift from God. We have to recognize our sin, receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior and rejoice that God has given us eternal life in His Son. Assurance (certainty) of salvation is based on the authority of God’s Word. There are many evidences we can look at to know we are saved and have eternal life. 1. God promises eternal life in His Word. a. According to John 1:12, what is the promise associated with receiving Jesus? b. John 3:16 states that whoever believes in God will not experience: c. What is the purpose of John’s letter according to 1 John 5:13? John uses the phrase “we know” (assurance) throughout his letter to help these believers come to a place of assurance about their salvation. This is found more than 30 times in this book. a. According to 1 John 2:3-5, how do we know for sure that we “know Him?” b. What is the basis of assurance in 1 John 3:14-15? c. In 1 John 4:13, what has God given to his children to bring us assurance of salvation? d. According to 1 John 4:14-15, what work does the Spirit produce in us that brings assurance? 4. Read Philippians 2:12-13. Verse 12 states that the Christian life is a life of obedience. a. But what happens when we fail to obey? b. What promise is there to claim in verse 13?
It is not His will that we live our lives wondering daily if we are saved. If you doubt your salvation, remember that our salvation rests only on God’s finished work for us. Even if our hearts forget that at times, it is still true. (1 John 3:19-20). Pray and ask God to remind you of His faithfulness to keep His promises.
